A Sports Card break, also known as a "box break" or "case break" is a type of event popular in the sports card collecting community.
Here's how Sports Card Breaks work:
-
A dealer or organizer purchases a sealed box or case of sports cards. These boxes contain a set number of packs, and each pack contains a set number of cards.
-
The dealer then sells spots in the break. These spots could be associated with a specific sports team, a specific player, or a set of players. Sometimes, the spots are simply associated with a certain portion of the cards in the box.
-
Once all the spots are sold, the dealer opens the box on a live video stream. This is the "break".
-
Each card that comes out of the box is given to the person who bought the spot associated with that card.
-
The dealer then ships the cards to the people who bought spots in the break.
The excitement in card breaks comes from the chance to receive valuable cards for a fraction of the price of buying a full box or case. However, there's also a risk of receiving less valuable cards or even no cards at all, depending on how the break is set up.
The cost to buy a spot varies based on the expected value of the cards associated with it.
