What is a "Sports Card Break"?

A Sports Card break, also known as a "box break" or "case break" is a type of event popular in the sports card collecting community.

Here's how Sports Card Breaks work:

  1. A dealer or organizer purchases a sealed box or case of sports cards. These boxes contain a set number of packs, and each pack contains a set number of cards.

  2. The dealer then sells spots in the break. These spots could be associated with a specific sports team, a specific player, or a set of players. Sometimes, the spots are simply associated with a certain portion of the cards in the box.

  3. Once all the spots are sold, the dealer opens the box on a live video stream. This is the "break".

  4. Each card that comes out of the box is given to the person who bought the spot associated with that card.

  5. The dealer then ships the cards to the people who bought spots in the break.

The excitement in card breaks comes from the chance to receive valuable cards for a fraction of the price of buying a full box or case. However, there's also a risk of receiving less valuable cards or even no cards at all, depending on how the break is set up.

The cost to buy a spot varies based on the expected value of the cards associated with it.
